Charles Martin-Sauvaigo (1881–1970)
Born in Nice on February 7, 1881, Charles Martin-Sauvaigo became an established French painter whose work was widely exhibited throughout his career.
Beginning in 1905, he regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, receiving important commissions for the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes, the Lycée de Garçons in Nice, and the Brézin Hospice Chapel in Garches.
Several works by Charles Martin-Sauvaigo are preserved in French national and municipal museum collections as well as international institutions. Following his death in Paris in 1970, the City of Nice honoured the artist by naming a street after him in his childhood neighbourhood.
